If your period of stay is six months or longer, you can generally apply for an extension about three months before it expires.

- Extension/change: ¥6,000 at the counter / ¥5,500 online
- Permanent residence: ¥10,000
From October 1, 2026, extension and change fees depend on the period of stay granted. The permanent residence fee will be ¥200,000. Check official information before applying.
